STUDY ABROAD/SEMESTER ABROAD
Over time, short-term study programs, cultural exchange trips, and student exchange programs abroad have become familiar to many students.
“Semester abroad” is considered a new effort Institute for International Education Vietnam in training students to become global citizens. This is a great opportunity for students to experience an educational environment abroad and develop their language skills simultaneously. They could gain more knowledge about the host country’s culture, and introduce Vietnamese culture to international friends.
What is studying abroad?
The cooperation between IIEVN and partner universities in other countries allows students from both universities to study at a partner university for 1 to 2 semesters with equivalent tuition fees to those in Vietnam. The students’ study results will be recognized and converted to the program of the Institute with the same total study time. Depending on the partner university, students will receive different benefits such as scholarships, dormitory support, etc. Students who participate in the program will gain many benefits and opportunities to study in an international university environment, and experience new cultures.
Benefits of the program include:
- Opportunities to experience the academic environment and new culture when studying abroad and developing oneself in a multicultural environment
- Numerous opportunities to exchange and connect with international friends
- Opportunities to develop language skills and improve communication skills in English
- Enhancement of essential skills for a global citizen: teamwork, analysis, problem-solving.
Basic conditions to participate in the program:
- Students of IIEVN who have completed at least two years of study at an educational institution
- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5/4 or above.
To fulfill these goals, let’s prepare the necessary luggage with the Institute for International Education Vietnam (IIEVN):
Language ability
Studying in another country means that students must use the language of the host country or English entirely, and there are very few opportunities to use Vietnamese. Therefore, if their language skills are not good enough, students will not only have difficulty in daily life but also may not be able to understand the teaching content, directly affecting their graduation results later. To meet this demand, IIEVN is still offering many suitable language teaching courses for each program, including English, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese for students to choose from, suitable for each individual’s study program.
Life skills and soft skills
Studying abroad means going to another country to study a program, or a course according to a pre-determined teaching plan. Students who want to study abroad must prepare necessary and sufficient skills for at least a few months beforehand. This is truly a long-term challenge for students, and not everyone is suitable for this difficult journey. Before departure, IIEVN will equip students with both life skills and soft skills, such as communication skills, teamwork skills, leadership skills, time management skills, and problem-solving skills, so that students are fully prepared for their studying abroad. Therefore, when entering a completely unfamiliar environment, students will not be confused and can easily adapt to the learning and cultural environment in the host country.
Stepping out of the border
“Semester abroad” is a program with teaching content designed specifically for IIEVN students.
“Stepping out of the border” is a beautiful dream that all students should try to experience at least once in their lifetime. If you are fully prepared, you will find that “Oh, it’s not easy, but it’s not difficult either!”
To prepare for a short-term semester abroad, IIEVN has drawn up the most complete and effective roadmap, from language training courses to life and soft skills before students come to a new country with a new culture.
