Vietnam has 37 people in the top 100,000 most influential scientists in the world

According to the ranking of the top 100,000 most influential scientists in the world in 2022, there are 37 Vietnamese scientists at this top.

The ranking of the top 100,000 most influential scientists in the world in 2022 by the Metrics team of Professors Jeroen Baas, Kevin Boyack, and John P.A. Ioannidis of Stanford University (USA) has just been published in the journal PLoS Biology.

Associate Professor. Dr. Le Hoang Son (Hanoi National University) and Professor. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc (Hanoi National University) are listed in the top 10,000 scientists in the world. Associate Professor Le Hoang Son ranked 5,816th and Professor Nguyen Dinh Duc ranked 7,454th. These two scientists have 4 consecutive years from 2019 to 2022 in the top 10,000 most influential scientists in the world.

Compared to last year’s ranking, three Vietnamese scientists are no longer in the top 10,000: Professor. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hung, Professor. Dr. Bui Tien Dieu and Professor.Dr. Vo Xuan Vinh.

In addition to the familiar names in the top 100,000 such as Nguyen Xuan Hung, Vo Xuan Vinh, Van Hieu, Nguyen Thoi Trung, Vu Quang Bach, Thai Hoang Chien, Tran Xuan Bach, Tran Nguyen Hai, Hoang Duc Nhat, Hoang Anh Tuan, Nguyen Duc Khuong, Pham Thai Binh, Le Thai Ha …, this year also recorded new names such as Huynh Luu Duc Toan – a young doctor of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City.

Ranked by lifetime achievements, there are 7 Vietnamese scientists at the top including Professor Nguyen Minh Tho, Tran Tinh Hien, Professor Nguyen Xuan Hung, Professor Nguyen Dinh Duc, and Associate Professor. Dr. Le Hoang Son, former Professor Hoang Tuy, Professor. Nguyen Ba An.

The ranking uses Scopus’ database from 1960 to August 2022 to filter out the top 100,000 most influential people among more than 7 million scientists.

The evaluation criteria are based on: indicators of influence in the scientific world; the total number of citations; the Hirsch h-index; the Schreiber hm-index; the number of citations for articles published as sole authors; the number of citations for articles that are primary and final authors, etc. Scientists are divided into 22 scientific fields and 176 subfields (disciplines/specialties).
